When to Order JR Pass

Hi,

Will be travelling to Japan on the 13th to 20th of March 2016. When is the best time to order the JR Pass and how long will it take for us to receive it?
Also, will I be able to use it in Tokyo Metro - Hibiya Line and Tokyo Metro - Ginza Line because Tsukiji Station is the nearest train Stn where we will be staying. We plan to go to Mt. Fuji and Osaka. Is having JR Pass enough or do we still need to buy other train tickets? Please advice.

Thanks.

    Hi Navz

The JR Pass is valid for 90 days after we issue the pass so you can order it now. Regarding delivery you can find an estimated delivery date here: https://www.japan-rail-pass.com/book-jrp/delivery-rates-and-times.

The JR Pass is useful for travel between cities/towns and not within towns. So it does not work on the Tokyo Metro. For travel within Tokyo and Osaka the best thing to get is the Pasmo card, a pre paid top up card. You can find information here: https://www.japan-rail-pass.com/services/pasmocard.

For travel around the Hakone area, where Mt Fuji is, you will need to pay separately for travel as this is not covered by the JR Pass. The nearest station that you can get to with your JR Pass is called Odawara. For travel within Hakone you can either get a Hakone free pass or pay as you go.

    Hope that helps

    Best regards
