The Japan Rail Pass is valid on all the Japan Rail (JR) lines all over Japan. You can ride all Shinkansen except the Nozomi and Mizuho Shinkansen using a JR Pass. It is also valid on local JR buses and the JR Miyajima ferry. It's not valid on private (non-JR) railway lines.
