Sapporo, Hakodate,Osaka, Kyoto, Hiroshima & Tokyo

My friend and I are planning to spend 10 days in Japan in May and are looking at the appropriate rail passes for the above destinations - we are looking at getting a 7 day rail pass though and are wondering what is the best way to travel around Sapporo/Hakodate to Osaka in the first three days? Would we be better off extending our pass to 14 days to cover it all or buy individual tickets?

As you are traveling a lot and covering quite a lot of the country, getting a JR Pass is usually the cheapest option. If you are staying in one place at the beginning of the trip or the end, and can get all your travel within 7 days, then you could get a 7 day JR Pass.

You can use this website, www.hyperdia.com, to find out fares and schdules for the trains. In the search details you need to untick Nozomi and private railways, to be sure that you can use the JR Pass.

    Hope that helps.
