JR Pass Advice

Hi,

I am planning on traveling with the following itinerary:

Arrive at Narita on April 6 and head to Tokyo
Stay in Tokyo on April 7, 8, and 9.
Visit Hakone/Fuji Five Lakes on April 10
Visit Nagano and stay at Toyama on April 11
Visit Kanazawa and Nagoya on April 12
Stay in Kyoto with day trips to Nara, Iga and Shiga from April 13 to 16
Return to Tokyo and have day trips to Tochigi and Ibaraki from April 17 to 19.

Is it worth getting a JR Pass for this itinerary? Should I got for 7 day or 14 day pass?

Thank you.

    Hi Skyblu,

Looking at your itinerary, I would definitely recommend that you get a 14-day JR Pass. When compared with the costs of the national JR Passes, the total cost of all the trips you will be making comes to more than the cost of a 14-day pass, so getting that pass would not only conveniently cover your travel for the whole of your trip, but it would also be good value for money.

However please note that trains all the way to Mount Fuji are not covered by the JR Pass, so you would have to pay some extra fare to get there.

    Best Regards,

Hakone and the Fuji 5 Lakes area are on opposite sides of the mountain. You really can't see both in one day. There are some regional passes by Odakyu you can use to save money however, to supplement your JR Rail Passes.
