Right Train Passes for our Japan Itinerary

Can you advise on whether we should consider a JR pass or a Regional Pass for the Osaka/Kyoto region for example for this itinerary. There are 4 travellers- travelling to Osaka for 2 days; onto Kyoto for 5 days with a day trip to Nara; to Takayama for 2 days; Hakone overnight and then to Tokyo for 4 days. It seems expensive to purchase a pass for 14 days. Thanks

    Hi Deb

You can find train fares using this website, www.hyperdia.com. You can use the Kansai regional passes for travel from Osaka to Kyoto as this would be cheaper, from Kyoto to Nara this us a cheap train fare of 710 yen so you can just get a return at the station.

For the rest of your travel, as you are not returning to the Kansai region for your flight home it works out cheaper to purchase tickets for single journeys once you are in Japan.

    Hope this helps.

    Best regards
