14 or 21 day pass?

Hi guys,

I'm going to be in Japan for 21 days, so originally I thought the 21 day pass would be the obvious choice. However, considering I'll be spending a few days pretty stationary in Hokkaido at the start, and then a few days in Kyushu at the end, would it possibly be more cost effective to just get a 14 day pass for my travel in between those places? I will be wanting to explore Hokkaido and Kyushu though, and I would have to pay for individual trains if I only had the 14 day pass, would that end up actually costing me more?! Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks!

It's all in the details. You need to weigh your plans vs the extra cost of the 21 day pass (which is about ¥13,000 over the 14 day pass). You can check regular rail fares, schedules and transfer info on
