What pass will be good for travelling from Osaka to Tokyo

Hi, my family will be taking a holiday to Japan next month. We will be travelling for 10 days from Osaka to Tokyo. Want to check whether it will be worth to get a 7 days JR pass. The city we will be visiting are Osaka, Koyto, Hakone and Tokyo. Will the JR Pass be able to use on these city transportation. Or you can recommend to us any better option. Thanks.

If you are only going one way and not returning to Osaka, your itinerary doesn't come close to making a 7 day pass pay off.
If you are willing to take some side trips, like a day trip or overnight to Hiroshima/Miyajima, you could make a 7 day pass pay off. If you wanted to make a 14 day pass pay off, you'd need to do that plus a couple day trips in the Tokyo area, such as to Nikko, Izu, Kusatsu, or Karuizawa.
If you are not willing to do that, then you should get regular tickets or fly on a low cost carrier like Jet Star, Peach, or Vanilla Air.

For Hakone, a JR Pass won't do much for you - you should get a Hakone Free Pass.

    Hi Joozzy,

It's true that your current travel plans look like getting a JR Pass would not be worth it. Adding a few day trips could be a good idea. How about visiting Himeji and its beautiful castle? From Kyoto it takes under an hour by Shinkansen to get there.

A day trip to Hiroshima would not only be worthwhile but very doable too, the journey there from Kyoto can be made in under two hours, and this extra trip alone would make a JR Pass worth getting.

If you don't have the time or inclination for any extra trips, it would be better for you to simply buy tickets when you get there - it would be cheaper than a national JR Pass.

    Kind Regards,
