how to use JR Pass to travel from Tokyo-osaka-hokkaido

Hi, i will travel to Japan for 13 days. Will arrive and depart at Narita Airport. Planning to visit Osaka then to Hokkaido and final station is Tokyo. Seek your kind recommendation whether i should use JR Pass for all the destination? and of course to have the cheaper transportation cost.

    Hi Low,

If you are planning to go to Hokkaido from Osaka by, while it IS certainly possible to do by Shinkansen, it would take you a long time and an entire day would essentially be taken up by train travel.

An quicker alternative would be to fly with a low-cost carrier:

    http://www.flypeach.com/home.aspx

A 14-day JR Pass may work out as cheaper option overall (depending on the cost of any flights available) as it would cover travel for your whole trip, so it really comes down to how much time you want to spend travelling on the train.

    I hope this helps.

    Sincerely,

Hi, may i know about JR East South Hokkaido ?

If i purchase 14 days JR East South Hokkaido, i can use it for travel within the Hokkaido tourist place like Otaru, Noribetsu, Hakodate, sapporo...etc? And can it use to travel to Osaka, kyoto, nagoya?

Further, is that any JR Pass i can use for all the places? i means to ride on any JR Line in Hokkaido, Osaka, Tokyo.. so that i do not need to many JR Pass (JR West, JR East, JR Hokkaido)

So sorry i am a bit confuse on it.

    tqvm

The JR East South Hokkaido Pass covers travel as shown on the map on the official website: http://www.jreasthokkaido.com/e/

It's 6-day flex pass, so is valid for travel on 6 days of your choice within a 14-day period. It does not cover 14 days of travel.

Travel around Hokkaido using the pass looks to be rather limited, and it doesn't cover much travel south of Tokyo, so you cannot use it to get to Nagoya, Osaka, Kyoto etc.

If you want a pass that allows you to travel around Hokkaido as well as down to Osaka and Kyoto and is valid for 14 days, you need a national 14-day pass, no regional pass will cover all of your travel. The national pass lets you travel on all JR lines all over Japan.

We sell the national JR Passes here: https://www.japan-rail-pass.com/jr-pass

    Hope this clears things up!
