Hi . . . lots of reading on Japanese "trains" to come up to speed and still am not there.
Will be based primarily in Tokyo and Kyoto with lots of side trips out of both cities over 19 days. Plan on taking 3 overnight trips out into the mountains and to the seaside to onsen in Aizu-wakamatsu, Hakone, and Toba.
It looks as if I need a "Free Pass" for Ise and Hakone or is there another way? Aizu is pretty straight forward with JRP. If Nara is on the list, looks as if another "Free Pass" is in my future too.
Thanks for your assistance and expertise.

If you are not aware of the Kintetsu Rail Pass and Ise-Kumano-Wakayama Area Tourist Pass, they may help you a lot.

Getting to Nara is easy, on either the JR Pass or Kintetsu Rail Pass. To get around the city, there is a 500 yen day bus pass. Most of the best is in the Nara Park area though.
For Hakone, the Hakone Free Pass is the best way to see the whole area.
